Chapter 10: To Understand the Ultimate/The Four Truths

Suttas 8>9>26>27>

8> The Four Truths conduce to cessation and to Nibbana. Therefore I have revealed them.

9> Clansen of Buddha must be made to understand the Four Truths.

26> Right view (Four wisdoms) is the forerunner of fully understanding the Four Truths.

27> Of a monk who has right view (the Four wisdoms) it may be expected that he will understand the Four Truths.

8> The Four Truths conduce to cessation and to Nibbana. Therefore I have revealed them. Gotama Buddha tells us the Four Truths contribute cessation and Nibbana, that he taught about them. The Four Truths are the ultimate.

9> Disciples of Gotama Buddha make effort to fully understand the Four Truths.

8>9> Gotama Buddha teaches us about the Four Truths, which conduce to cessation and Nibbana and his disciples make effort to get full understand- ing of them.

26> In advance of understanding of the Four Truths, the right view (Four Wisdoms) arises. 27> A disciple to whom right view (Four Wisdoms) arises will be well expected to understand the Four Truths.

8>9>26>27> Gotama Buddha taught about the Four Truths, which leads to the Ultimate without fail. Disciples make effort to understand fully the Four Truths. After completing practice of Eightfold Path and arising of right view (the Four Wisdoms), one will be well expected to nderstand the Four Truths.

After completing practices of the Eightfold Path and after right view (the Four Wisdoms) arose in me, I continued practice of sati(mindfulness) -- samadhi and waited.

Eventually I came to understand the Ultimate (the heighest) of Gotama Buddhism, that is, the Four Truths including greed, anger, foolishness to cease, in particular.
